Dnipropetrovsk Region is one of the most powerful, economically and scientifically developed regions of Ukraine. The rich natural resources, ultiranched transport infrastructure, powerful industry, advanced space rocket technologies, developed chemical industry, agrarian, scientific and export potential make for the high attractiveness for investments of this region. In this region the reformation of economy is carried out with success, new ideas and technologies are introduced. Dnipropetrovsk Region plays the significant part in area of foreign economic activity of Ukraine.
The region is situated in the south east part of Ukraine, in steppe and forest-steppe physiographic zones, in the basin of medium-stream and down-stream of the main river in the country -- the Dnieper. It borders on Poltava and Kharkiv regions in the north, on Donetsk region in the east, on Kherson and Zaporizhya regions in the south, on Mykolay’v and Kirovograd regions in the west. Cities: Dnipropetrovs’k, Kryvyн Rih, Dniprodzerzhyns’k, Nikopol’, Pavlograd. The region territory is 31,9 thousand square kilometers, that is 5,3% of the territory of Ukraine.
The Dnipropetrovs’k region belongs to one of the most populated area (3560 thousand of people), yielding only to Donetsk region (4843 thousand of people) and Kyiv region (4435 thousand of people). The center of the region Dnipropetrovs’k makes up the main part of demographic potential.
The Specialists consider that Dnipropetrovs’k region -- standard European region, and therefore we directly link today its place and future prospects with Europe. Our region compare to such regions, as Ruhr Area in Germany, Walloon in Belgium, Lower Silesia in Hollow, Lorraine in Frances -- on similarities useful fossilized and developed on their base is blazed-industrial complex. Exactly, high level of development of heavy industry has allowed concentrate beside us powerful industrial potential. It is enough to say that in Prydniprovye is produced beside 17% whole industrial product of Ukraine that corresponds to the second place on country.

Bright and original Dnipropetrovs’k culture life centers are the museums. The 150th anniversary from its foundation has noted by the historical museum, which named after D. I. Yavornitsky. The spiritual treasury of region is filled up with the backlogs of 62 professional prose writers, with poets, translators -- members of the National union of writers of Ukraine. The title of honour «academic» Dnipropetrovs’k theatre of opera and ballet was given in 2002 year. The considerable notice is allocated to development of national art creativity. The visit-card of the region is Petrikivs’kaya decorative ornamental art. The products of this craft are well-known in many countries of the world and adequately represent art of Ukraine.
The region occupies one of the first places in Ukraine on its scientific technical potential. Nowadays scientific technical works in Dnipropetrovsk land are carried out by 103 organizations, including 55 scientific research ones, 21 independent design ones, 4 design and development ones, 11 institutions of higher education and others. Over 4500 candidates of science, 750 Doctors of Science, 6 Corresponding Members and 9 Full Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine are working in scientific and design organizations of the region.
Regional scientific institutions consist of 12 scientific research institutes, 169 problem laboratories, 28 small-scale enterprises, 22 technical parks.
In Dnipropetrovsk region there are 1092 schools of general education, including 17 Gymnasiums, 22 Lyceums, three Collegiums, where over 444 thousand of pupils study.
Great attention is paid to training of the national elite -- intellectual potential of the state, which studies in the educational institutions of new type (Gymnasiums, Lyceums, teachinf and educational complexes).
There are institutions of higher education with state ownership and other forms of property in the system of higher education in Ukraine . The educational institution worknet consists of 979 institutions of higher education of I-IY accreditation level, there are 315 institutions of higher education of III-IY accreditation level including 223 with state ownership, among them -- 116 universities, 59 academies, 150 institutes. 38 universities and academies have the status of national ones.
